Inspired by a prehistoric burial site in Ain Mallaha, Israel, which shows an old man with a young dog.
This work explores the emotional relationship between humans and animals and particularly with domesticated companions that live side by side with humans. The longingfor protection, naturalness and innocence in the relationship with these animals is emphasised. The connection between humans and dogs is depicted as an relationship on an equal level, in contrast to the symbolic association with cats as household deity. Additionally, the artwork addresses the artist‘s personal love and yearning for an animal companion, with this desire always seeming to correlate with a certain sense of melancholy. For the substitutability of domestic beings without creating a significant difference in functions or roles, seems to be associated with a certain sadness and incompleteness of human existence.
